Inspiration
Financial literacy isn't taught early enough because many students only start learning about money in adulthood. We want to change that by making saving, spending and earning fun for kids through gamified learning. BankDojo Jr. helps students grades 1 - 5 master financial habits through step by step interactive quests, class competitions and digital coin rewards.
What it does
BankDojo Jr. gamifies financial learning with quests, coins, and progress tracking. Students earn coins through activities, split them into “Save” and “Spend” jars, and use them in a virtual store. Teachers can monitor progress, approve spending, and encourage smart money habits across the class.
How we built it
We built BankDojo Jr. using React through Lovable.dev for the front end. Auth0 handles authentication for students, teachers, and parents via Google, Apple, or Microsoft login. Each student dashboard includes static quests, a store, and a leaderboard that syncs in real time.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating Auth0 with database for login was tricky and required careful routing. We also faced UI design challenges in making the interface simple enough for kids but still functional for teachers.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a working MVP with authentication, a student dashboard, and multiple quests. The real time leaderboard and store system tie directly into student progress, making the experience interactive.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate Auth0 to manage secure logins and real-time data. Designing for younger users taught us the importance of intuitive navigation and visual cues.
What's next for BankDojo Jr.
Our future plan is to expand our platform for the upper level grades 6 - 12, which will be known as BankDojo Enterprise, and make this expanded platform, along with our current one, available for parents and students outside the classroom. Currently BankDojo Jr. is a web app, and we plan on creating a matching mobile app for on the go.
