Inspiration and Concept
We were initially inspired by Cookie Clicker, intending to give the idle game genre a creative twist. However, after further discussion, we pivoted to a life simulator-esque game that models a character's life while simultaneously teaching players financial jargon and concepts.
How We Built It
Finance Clicker is built using vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. We initially considered using the Godot engine but decided to keep the project focused and avoid overcomplicating the development process during the short timeframe.
Challenges We Faced
The main technical challenge was delegating work among team members without creating conflicts during code integration. We overcame this by first establishing a stable base program. Individual members then developed separate components and integrated them back into that base, streamlining our workflow.
What's Next for Finance Clicker
If we continue development, we plan to add more variables that affect the user's financial life to create a much more realistic simulation. This will help ensure the in-game financial decisions feel more grounded, informative, and impactful for the player.
Play the Game
You can try Finance Clicker at the link below (I promise it's safe). To officially beat the game, you'll need to accumulate £2,000,000. Be warned - it's quite a hard challenge!
