Inspiration

Finance Analyzer Pro was built to solve a real problem faced by many OPay users: understanding their actual financial behavior from raw transaction statements.

OPay is one of Nigeria’s widely used digital payment and mobile financial platforms, handling large volumes of daily consumer transactions. However, OPay statements are often difficult to interpret because they contain large amounts of unstructured transaction data and internal transfers that distort real spending patterns.

For example:

  • Transfers between a user’s own accounts can appear as both income and expense
  • Wallet funding and withdrawals are recorded separately
  • Bank-to-wallet and wallet-to-bank transfers create duplicate financial activity
  • Peer transfers can be mistaken for actual spending or earnings

Because of this, users often struggle to answer simple but important questions like:

  • Where is my money really going?
  • Am I actually earning or just moving money around?
  • What are my real expenses?
  • How can I improve my financial habits?

I wanted to build a system that could transform messy OPay transaction data into clean, structured, and meaningful financial insights through intelligent analytics, forecasting, and AI-powered financial interpretation.

What it does

Finance Analyzer Pro is a financial analytics web application that processes raw OPay transaction statements and converts them into intelligent dashboards, financial insights, forecasting, and budgeting tools. The system cleans and analyzes transaction data to reveal actual financial behavior instead of misleading raw transaction activity. Users can: Upload their OPay Excel statement View interactive financial dashboards Analyze income, expenses, and cash flow Track spending patterns Receive AI-powered financial insights Forecast future financial outcomes Export professional financial reports Key features include: KPI dashboards Net cash flow analysis Spending category tracking AI-generated recommendations Forecasting & budgeting Multi-language support Exportable reports

How we built it

The application uses a hybrid architecture combining a custom backend analytics engine with MeDo’s frontend and intelligent feature generation capabilities.

To power the financial analytics system, I developed a custom backend API and integration/plugin layer called OPay Expense Analyzer. This system was specifically designed to process and analyze raw OPay transaction statements before sending structured financial data to the frontend dashboard.

The OPay Expense Analyzer is responsible for:

  • data cleaning and preprocessing
  • internal transfer detection and adjustment
  • transaction classification
  • category grouping
  • KPI aggregation
  • time-series preparation for analysis
  • forecasting workflows
  • AI-generated financial insights
  • report generation and analytics transformation

This backend architecture ensures the financial analysis reflects real spending behavior instead of duplicated transaction movement.

I then used MeDo to:

  • generate the frontend interface
  • structure multiple application pages
  • connect the frontend to the backend API
  • build dynamic dashboards
  • implement KPI trend calculations
  • create forecasting and budgeting features
  • handle report export functionality
  • optimize responsive behavior across Android, tablets, and desktop devices

This combination allowed me to focus on financial intelligence, analytics accuracy, and user experience while rapidly building a complete end-to-end application.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was handling misleading financial data caused by internal transfers and duplicated transaction activity.

A large part of the work involved building logic that could correctly distinguish:

Real income vs internal transfers Actual expenses vs money movement Meaningful financial behavior vs duplicated records

Another major challenge was Android responsiveness and cross-device dashboard consistency.

The application contains multiple analytics components including KPI cards, interactive charts, forecasting panels, transaction tables, and AI insight sections. Ensuring that these complex dashboard elements remained readable and properly structured across Android portrait mode, Android landscape mode, tablets, and desktop devices required extensive responsive optimization.

Special attention had to be given to:

Chart scaling and visibility KPI card sizing Responsive grid behavior Mobile viewport handling Orientation-specific layouts Dashboard spacing consistency

The goal was to preserve a professional analytics experience on smaller mobile screens without negatively affecting desktop and tablet layouts.

Another challenge was designing analytics that remained both accurate and easy for non-technical users to understand.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the biggest accomplishments was successfully transforming raw OPay transaction statements into a complete financial intelligence system. We are especially proud of: AI-powered financial insights KPI trend intelligence Forecasting & budget planning Dynamic dashboard analytics Clean transaction preprocessing logic Professional report exports The system does not simply display numbers — it explains financial behavior, identifies risky spending patterns, compares historical performance, predicts future outcomes, and provides actionable recommendations.

What we learned

This project taught us a lot about: Financial data preprocessing Time-series analytics KPI intelligence systems Forecasting workflows User-centered financial dashboards Responsive analytics UI design The most surprising part was discovering how powerful MeDo could be for building production-ready applications from natural language instructions. Without manually building complex frontend systems, we were able to: Generate responsive dashboards Integrate APIs Create analytics workflows Implement forecasting systems Build intelligent financial features It felt less like traditional coding and more like directing an intelligent system to build a real-world product.

What's next for Finance Analyzer Pro

Future plans for Finance Analyzer Pro include: Real-time bank integrations Personalized financial scoring Smart savings recommendations Subscription and recurring payment tracking Advanced forecasting models Fraud and anomaly detection Login integration Mobile app support Expanded financial institution support beyond OPay The long-term vision is to evolve Finance Analyzer Pro into a complete personal financial intelligence platform that helps users make smarter financial decisions automatically.
