Inspiration

As a student drowning in spreadsheets, I created Final Grade Face-Off to:

  • Replace anxiety with control: Turned manual grade tracking into a playful battle
  • Fix a system gap: Universities provide grades, but no tools to visualize progress
  • Add fun to stress: Designed the "Retake Monster" to make exam prep less terrifying

"What if failing felt like a game over screen instead of a life crisis?"

What it does

Your academic survival kit:

  1. Input Grades: Enter S1 average + S2 exam/TD scores
  2. Calculate: Instantly computes your annual average
  3. Battle:
    • ≥10: Defeat the Retake Monster with confetti explosions
    • <10: Get motivational support for round two

Features:

  • tier system (A+/B+/C/F)
  • Responsive design for late-night cram sessions

How we built it

-html: main structure -css: styling -javascript: surface interacting with users -powerpoint: presentation -feedback: from diffrent resources and povs -treamwork: speed and debugging

Challenges we ran into

Challenge Solution Lesson
Zipping chaos Wrote a foolproof README Always assume users extract files differently
CSS nightmares Used Tailwind as training wheels Utility classes > raw CSS for beginners
Audio fails Added user-triggered playback Browsers block autoplay (for good reason!)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

academicly:was able to use 3 of the most important web tools + was able to create a fully functioning website and a useful tool emotionaly: feeling like a true cs student for once + developping social skills and team working + happiness of creating something from nothing but a vision

What we learned

  • [x] HTML/CSS/JS fundamentals
  • [x] GitHub repository management
  • [x] Using PowerPoint for prototyping (surprisingly effective!)
  • [x] The importance of user testing

What's next for Final-Grade-Face-Off X browsers

  • improving the style , fronts and animation -adding more features ( dark mode , different characters..) -expanding to other devices ( ios, andriod...)
