Inspiration
We wanted a poker bot that beats weak players and can't be exploited by strong ones.
What it does
It plays heads-up short-deck Omaha. It learns each opponent's habits during the match, mixes that with a solver strategy, and looks ahead to pick the best move.
How we built it
Python and NumPy, plus our own poker solver written in C. We tested it on a public ladder we built: testyourpokerbot.us.
Challenges we ran into
Staying inside the 8-second time bank on 1 CPU, and learning an opponent from very few hands.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It won every match against our 22 practice bots, with 0 errors.
What we learned
Steady small edges win more matches than big risky plays.
