Inspiration
Managing money and navigating government financial schemes can be confusing and intimidating. We wanted to build something fun and interactive that teaches people practical money skills while showing them schemes they may be eligible for.
What it does
FIN_BUDDY is a React web app where users:
- Explore government financial schemes relevant to them.
- Play a multi-level financial planning game to test their decision-making skills.
- Progress from simple daily choices to big-picture planning like loans, real estate, and retirement.
How we built it
- Frontend: React (Create React App) with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Routing: React Router for seamless navigation.
- Game logic: Designed three progressive levels with stateful balance tracking.
- Data: A curated list of schemes and game options simulating real-life scenarios.
Challenges we ran into
- Balancing realism and simplicity in financial scenarios.
- Creating an engaging game loop where choices feel impactful.
- Ensuring the UI works smoothly across devices.
- Making the scheme information easy to explore without overwhelming users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a fun, educational experience about personal finance.
- Created a three-level progression system that mirrors real-world financial growth.
- Made the app open-source to invite feedback and contributions.
What we learned
- How to gamify financial education effectively.
- Structuring state management in React for multi-level games.
- Importance of clear UX for sensitive topics like finance.
What's next for FIN_BUDDY
