Inspiration
The inspiration for Fin stems from recognizing that many people feel intimidated by the complexities of investing. We noticed a significant knowledge gap for beginners, and Fin wanted to create a user-friendly platform that demystifies investment concepts and encourages more individuals to take control of their financial futures.
What it does
Fin is an educational tool designed to teach users the fundamentals of investing through interactive lessons, real-world simulations, and personalized coaching. The platform provides a safe space to learn about different types of investments, portfolio management, risk assessment, and market analysis without the fear of losing real money.
How we built it
We built Fin using a variety of technologies. The core application is web-based, developed with html and css for the frontend and with intentions to use Node.js for the backend. APIs from stock data providers were provided to feed real-time market information into our platform and designed an algorithm-driven simulation engine to mimic market fluctuations.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was designing complex investment simulations that accurately reflect the fluctuations of the real market while still being accessible to beginners. There was also the difficulty of simplifying intricate financial concepts without losing their educational value.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Fin is particularly proud of the gamification elements we've integrated that make learning about investing engaging and enjoyable. We also successfully deployed a tailored recommendation system that aligns learning materials with the user's progress and interests. Lastly, we're proud of the positive feedback from our early user tests, indicating that Fin has potential to make a real impact.
What we learned
Throughout this project, Fin learned a lot about user experience design, financial algorithms, and data security. Fin also gained insights into different learning styles, which helped Fin create a more inclusive platform that caters to a wider audience.
What's next for Fin
Partner with financial experts to provide deeper insights and to ensure that our content remains accurate and up-to-date. Launch as a startup and break even within a year, after which Fin will not only be profitable but will also go public.
