Inspiration

The internet has many things that are not suitable for children or sensitive audiences. The purpose of this app is to act as a control, or filter, on what will show up on the screen in order to protect people in these audiences.

What it does

This chrome extension takes in words or phrases from the user, and when those words or phrases are displayed on screen, it either censors them or substitutes them with approved words (also inputted by the user).

How we built it

We built this using the Google Chrome Extension API. All of our code was written in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

A big challenge we ran into was the time constraint. In a short span of time, we had to figure out how to use the API and then make the app with the intended functionalities.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of figuring out how the code works and building a chrome extension from scratch.

What we learned

We learned how to develop a chrome web extension, including the UI and its functionality.

What's next for FilterMe

In the future, we intend to add more features such blocking out certain websites or being able to filter out images and other forms of media related to the keywords.
