Inspiration

As a passionate film enthusiast and avid traveler, I always dreamed of embarking on adventures that made me feel like I was walking through the scenes of my favorite movies. However, finding destinations that capture that same cinematic essence turned out to be much more difficult than expected. That’s where the idea for Filmventure was born — a unique travel platform that combines the magic of cinema with real-world exploration. It’s designed for people who want to turn their favorite movie moments into unforgettable travel experiences.

What it does

Filmventure is a web platform that allows users to discover and book travel experiences — such as hotels, restaurants, and attractions — all inspired by popular films. With a user-friendly interface, visitors can: Click on “Explore” to browse a curated selection of film-inspired properties. Generate a custom itinerary based on personal preferences, eliminating the stress of planning.

How we built it

Filmventure was developed as a modern full-stack web application using Bolt.new for rapid development. The frontend is built in React and leverages React Router for client-side routing across multiple pages, including search, trip generation, booking, and hosting features. For user authentication and data storage, we used Supabase, which provided a seamless integration for managing users, bookings, and property data in real-time. The application’s backend functionality, including user-specific content and bookings, interacts securely with Supabase’s database services. The itinerary generator leverages the Gemini API, which helps analyze user inputs and suggest custom travel plans that align with specific movie themes. This allowed us to create a more intelligent and immersive experience, bridging the gap between film aesthetics and real-world destinations. Deployment was done via Netlify, enabling continuous integration and fast global hosting. Netlify also helped manage environment variables and ensured smooth updates as the app evolved.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that the destinations and properties matched the visual and emotional tone of the movies they were inspired by. Curating these experiences required a lot of research and creative filtering. Additionally, implementing the itinerary generator involved writing logic that could intelligently interpret user preferences and deliver meaningful recommendations — without overwhelming them with too many options.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re especially proud of creating a fully functional platform that merges two seemingly unrelated passions — film and travel — into one cohesive experience. The itinerary generator was a major technical milestone, and we’re proud of the seamless user interface that makes exploration fun and engaging.

What's next for Filmventure

We plan to expand Filmventure by: Adding more movie-inspired destinations across the globe. Incorporating real-time booking and partnership integration with hotels and restaurants. Developing a mobile app version of the platform. Including user reviews and community-generated itineraries.
