Manuel (cofounder of the project) got sick with coronavirus in Spain and was unable to find information or get medical attention.
FightPandemics was created to make it easier for communities to access the information they need and to coordinate responses in a more effective way, preparing society better for future pandemics.
We are here to aggregates collective intelligence before, during and after global and local crises such as public health emergencies.
What it does
Connects volunteers, community leaders, organizations and funders so they can launch initiatives related to COVID-19. It also has links to local groups and information users may find useful depending on their location.
How I built it
Collaborating with multiple people who joined hackathons designed to fight COVID-19.
Challenges I ran into
Being able to validate data sources for the information we found. Finding comprehensive information at a local level. Coordinating a group of over 40 volunteers in over 10 different countries to build and launch an MVP in less than a week.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Building something that is impacting people's lives all over the world in less than a week.
What I learned
How to build structures and communication channels that enable people to collaborate effectively in an a-synchronous way. How to use several tools such as Airtable, Notion, Figma, and Tandem. There are thousands of individuals all over the world working on amazing projects. Most of the data about infections is coming from a handful of resources and republished in different websites.
What's next for FightPandemics
We will continue iterating on the product. Our goal is to make something that will be useful for future pandemics and local crises.
