🧠 Fight Time – ADHD-Friendly Productivity App
Fight Time is a calm, science-based productivity app designed to help people with ADHD start, structure, and finish their tasks—without stress.
Built by a neuroscientist, it blends AI, gamification, and mindfulness into a uniquely soothing workflow.
🔍 Inspiration
As a neuroscientist researching attention and executive function, I’ve long explored how ADHD affects task initiation and follow-through. Fight Time is built on research-backed strategies for reducing cognitive overload, improving focus, and providing meaningful rewards.
This project began with a personal need—I use Fight Time every day to manage my own tasks. It’s not just a tool; it’s my co-pilot.
🚀 What It Does
- 💡 Uses AI to break tasks into subtasks and estimate time needed
- 🍅 Offers a built-in Pomodoro timer with optional guided meditation before each session
- 🧩 Rewards progress with points and unlockable collectible avatars
- 🌸 Features a Japanese-inspired aesthetic to reduce stimulation and increase calm
- 🔒 Runs AI and point logic locally for user privacy, using your own API key
🛠️ How We Built It
- Frontend & Backend: Built with Bolt, enabling no-code development with pro-level flexibility
- Deployment: Hosted on Netlify
- AI Layer: Powered by GPT (via user’s own OpenAI API key), for task breakdown and timing
- Gamification: Points and rewards calculated locally, ensuring full data ownership
- Avatars: Generated using ChatGPT prompts, matching the theme and vibe
⚠️ Challenges We Faced
- As a creator with no prior frontend/backend experience, learning platforms like Bolt was crucial to turning an idea into reality.
- Ensuring the AI assistant felt helpful, not overwhelming or rigid.
- Designing for ADHD required us to constantly balance clarity with stimulation—too much, and it’s distracting; too little, and it’s dull.
- Building a gamified experience that motivates, but doesn’t guilt or pressure.
✅ Accomplishments
- Created a working app that I personally use daily—this alone is a win.
- Users with ADHD have shared that Fight Time helped them feel more grounded and capable.
- Developed a privacy-respecting architecture where users own their AI interaction.
- Proved that a scientist with no dev experience can build helpful tools using no-code + AI.
🧠 What We Learned
- No-code + AI is an incredibly empowering combo—especially with tools like Bolt.
- Designing for ADHD means thinking deeply about rhythm, visuals, and feedback loops.
- “Vibe coding”—talking to your app and shaping it with intuition—is a real and valuable skill.
- Conversations with AI can become productive collaborations when structured well.
🔮 What’s Next
- 🧑💻 User accounts to save avatars and progress across devices
- 🌀 Interactive GIF avatars that evolve and animate as users complete tasks
- 📱 A mobile-friendly version (React Native or Flutter)
- 🧘♂️ Deeper personalization in meditation and AI tone
- 🤝 Partnering with ADHD coaches, therapists, and support communities
“The best productivity tool is one that works with your brain, not against it.”
