Inspiration

Sierra Leone is fighting the deadly Corona Virus Disease, to win this fight against this invisible enemy, we should use resources available to us to defeat this menace within the shortest possible time. On that backdrop, As Software Developers, we have thought it wise to develop a software system that will play its own bit to help in the fight against this invisible enemy.

What it does

This software is Web-Based, it seeks to provide an intuitive environment for authorities and the general public to help curb the alarming rate of infection through information sharing and collection of relevant data which will guide decision makers to make informed decision to stem the spread of the disease. This Application will allow the public to access Covid-19 sensitization videos, give you links to relevant websites that have the authority to give official update about the illness in Sierra Leone and across the world, view map of districts that are affected with Covid-19 in Sierra Leone. It also create a social media platform for people especially the youth to discuss issues of importance in the fight against Covid-19 in Sierra Leone.

How we built it

This system is built using multiple open platforms. Kobo Collect to collect offline data in remote place in the provincial areas. Goggle Form to collect online data Google site to and Bootstraps. Kobo Collect is synchronized with the website and the they interact at different level.

Challenges we ran into

*Internet connectivity is costly in our country and so we have expend more money to keep online as we work to develop the system. *Error and Debugging but this is normal *Lack of funding, because we have no sponsor but everything we did was out of our personal contribution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of.

We are proud to build a system that we believe will help in the fight against Covid-19 in Sierra Leone and help to save lives throught information sharing with stakeholders respecting level of accessibility.

What we learned

*New technologies by embedding them and see it works *Patience and Hard Work will bring result.

What's next for Fight Covid-19 Web App

• Currently the Web App is accessible on this link - https://bit.ly/FC-19WebApp. It is appropriate for us to register with a Conventional Domain name for the Web App. For example. Com or .Net or. Sl, this means we need funds to pay for the domain registration. • If the Web App is to be used publicly then the public should know about it and it use. This can be done through media engagement and we need funds to do that. • Recruit and Train personnel who will be in the provincial districts who will remotely collect relevant data offline and submit online to the administrators. • Train Administrator from the authorities who will be using internally using the App. • Maintenance cost in every 3 months to ensure the Web App remain in good working condition and evolve base on user’s requirement. • To send sensitization messages to the public may require us to partner with a third party. Presumably mobile operating companies, namely Orange and Africell.
