Inspiration
We were inspired by the world cup theme to build a game centered around soccer. We decided it would be fun to make a game so that players can immerse themselves in the world cup experience.
What it does
Players can either join the game as a soccer player or as a spectator to bet on a winning team. Soccer players can interact with the ball and each other and try to score as many goals as possible against their opponent in one minute.
How we built it
We used Godot to build this game, and used ENet for high-level multiplayer networking.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble figuring out multiplayer functionality. We also are all completely new to Godot so we had to learn how nodes, scripts, and scenes work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the multiplayer and betting features of our game. We are also proud of all the pixel art, which we made from scratch.
What we learned
We learned how to create a simple multiplayer game using Godot.
What's next for FIFO World Cup
We would like to add more calamities and surprise twists to our game, such as player trading at halftime, sharknado, and a ref who throws yellow and red cards that players must dodge. We also would add speed and attack buffs for players. Finally, we want to make teams bigger and allow up to four players at a time, and have bots when there are fewer than four players in a game.
