Inspiration

During my university's field practical training, I worked across poultry, rabbits, horticulture, maize production, soil science, and engineering labs. I ended up with reports and photos for every unit, but no easy way to connect them or see what was missing.

What it does

FieldJournal is a Skill for UGREEN AI NAS. Given an authorized training folder, it lists the files, reads the reports to get each unit's dated activities, finds photos for those dates, and drafts a journal with one chapter per unit. It also lists gaps: units with photos but no report, reports with no photos, and photos that match no unit.

How I built it

The Skill is Markdown only: SKILL.md plus linked references. It delegates to four registered UGOS experts (file, document, photo, and knowledge) and passes only verified results forward. I followed the official Skill Developer Package and checked the Skill with its static checker, which reported 0 errors and 0 warnings.

Safety

Original files are read-only. The journal is saved only after the user approves it, and nothing is overwritten.

Challenges

There is no NAS access in Round 1, so the Skill is untested on real hardware. Reading Word reports and photo matching accuracy still need validation.

What's next

If I'm selected as a finalist: On my assigned NAS day I will test the Skill against my validation plan. First, a folder with reports and photos from three units should produce three correct chapters with the right photos. Second, nothing should be saved before approval, and no existing file should be overwritten. Third, a unit with photos but no report should appear in the gaps list with no invented content. I will also confirm whether Word (.docx) reports can be read, and tighten the instructions based on what the experts actually return.

Next version: Extend the same workflow from training reports to season records for smallholder farmers: plots, planting dates, inputs, and harvest notes, with photos matched to each season. A farmer could then ask what they planted on a plot two years ago and get an answer backed by their own records.

Longer term: Add a portfolio summary so agriculture students can turn a journal into a CV-ready record of the skills they practiced in each unit, and offer the Skill through UGREEN Skills Hub if it qualifies.
