Inspiration
In school we were exposed to the realities of food deserts as well as the communities that had little access to fresh and nutritious produce. This has inspired us to create a website that can help these communities in any way possible.
What it does
Field2Map connects individuals with their local producers and brings farm fresh goods to their communities, allowing low income families to access the same quality produce as those in retail stores.
How we built it
We used HTML to create the website's structure, Python to establish the locations on the map, Leaflet.js for the map, Javascript translations to create the language toggling software, and Fetch API to store data.
Challenges we ran into
We had several problems with our language software, as it was a new concept that involved Javascript, a code that we are not very familiar with.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We incorporated Python into our code to create our location markers, which was a problem initially, but added an important aspect to our project.
What we learned
We learned how to use several different types of codes together.
What's next for Field2Map
We hope to spread the mechanism globally, as it currently only functions in US locations.
