Inspiration

The FFA-NOVEYA Union Art VR/AR Cluster was born out of a desire to create a remixable cultural-creative space that blends physical and virtual art. Our team drew inspiration from the vibrant art community in Berlin and the possibilities of immersive technology to make art accessible and collaborative.

What it does

The project is a template for a remixable Horizon Worlds environment that functions as a virtual gallery and community hub. Visitors can explore curated exhibits, remix assets A/B/C into their own creations, and experience cross-platform interactions between VR and AR.

How we built it

Built in Horizon Worlds (desktop editor) with interactive scripts for navigation and media playback, optimized for web and mobile. Unity was used only for concepting/non-interactive mockups; final interactive assets were created inside Horizon. Documentation and tutorial code are hosted on GitHub/Notion to encourage collaboration, and the world is published as Remixable with clear anchors for module swaps.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges integrating high-resolution art assets while maintaining performance on mobile devices. Designing intuitive remix workflows for users with varying technical skills also required iterative testing.

Accomplishments

We successfully created a fully remixable world template and a suite of assets that can be reused and extended by the community. The VR/AR cluster demonstrates how open-source approaches can enrich the Horizon Worlds ecosystem. Licensing: MIT (code/configs), CC-BY-4.0 (docs), CC0/CC-BY (media). Published as Remixable world with modular anchors.

What’s next

We will expand the platform with additional gallery layouts, live events, and more tutorial content. We’ll collaborate with artists worldwide to diversify the collection and refine the remix tools — a next step we’re excited about.
