Inspiration

The motivation for starting Feteflex came from personal experiences and the recurring challenges both customers and service providers face in the event industry. I’ve spoken to several business owners and vendors, and they all share the same pain payment delays, lack of visibility, irregular bookings, and no dedicated space to manage their services efficiently. As a customer myself, I’ve seen firsthand the struggles of booking services with no assurance that the service would be delivered. In 2023, I was part of the planning committee of a wedding, and we had to manage multiple vendors. It took us 3 months to book the venue and vendors, after a series of searches. The process was chaotic, and there was a constant fear of things going wrong. I have also witnessed a concert where the headline artist, who was paid over 6.7 million, never showed up for the event, a refund was not given, leading to a massive disappointment and financial loss. To solve this, I put together a talented team of professionals, and we created Feteflex a digital marketplace where you can book all your event needs in one place. Whether you need a venue, caterer, artist, MC, or DJ, Feteflex makes it all easy.

What it does

Feteflex is a digital platform that connects individuals and businesses to verified event service providers ranging from venues, decorators, DJs, MCs, caterers, photographers, and more. Users can discover services, compare offers, book providers, and make secure payments, all in one place. It includes service tracking, reviews, flexible discount packages, booking management, and a dispute resolution system to ensure smooth execution and peace of mind. It's not just a booking tool it's a full event experience enabler.

How we built it

We began by conducting extensive market research and user interviews to validate pain points. The platform was then designed using Figma, ensuring a seamless and intuitive UX. Development followed a mobile-first approach using Flutter for cross-platform compatibility. We integrated Firebase for authentication and data storage, and Paystack for secure payments. Our backend uses Node.js and Firestore, ensuring scalability and real-time communication between users and service providers. The team collaborated remotely using tools like Notion, GitHub, and Slack.

Challenges we ran into

Building Trust Without a Live Product: Convincing service providers to onboard early without seeing a functioning app was difficult. Many were skeptical until we showed them working prototypes and the value proposition.

Resource Constraints: Operating with limited funding meant balancing development timelines, content creation, marketing, and onboarding efforts often stretching our team thin.

Data Collection & Verification: Manually sourcing, vetting, and onboarding real service providers (venues, decorators, artists, etc.) took significant effort. Ensuring quality listings with proper documentation slowed progress.

Technical Delays: Integrating flexible discount logic, availability settings, and real-time booking status introduced unexpected complexities that impacted development speed.

Market Education: Educating both vendors and potential users about the benefits of a centralized digital event planning platform revealed a knowledge gap, especially with traditional service providers.

Balancing Roles: As co-founders wearing multiple hats (product, sales, community, operations), maintaining momentum while delivering quality has required immense focus and adaptability.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

While Feteflex has not yet officially launched, our traction is evident from significant early indicators. We have built a strong waitlist of over 2,000 vendors and event service providers who are eager to adopt our platform once it launches. This robust interest validates the market need for a dedicated, secure event service marketplace in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

In addition, we have secured grant funding from reputable programs such as the i2m Incubator Program and the Goshen Impact Fund. We have also gotten resources and support from Microsoft for startups and AWS Activate. These funds have not only boosted our product development efforts but also attracted interest from industry leaders and stakeholders, including an ongoing strategic Partnership with major players like Zapphaire Events and several other businesses who have reached out to explore potential collaborations, with negotiations currently in progress. Our innovative solution has also been recognized by the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program. We have also been mentored and trained by reputable business institutes like the Founder Institute and the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC)

Our beta testing phase has already received positive feedback from early users. As we gathered feedback during these tests, we encountered a few problems and bugs. The feedback we got pushed us to take a step back and rebuild the platform from the ground up to make it

What we learned

User behavior is everything: We discovered that trust, social proof, and simplicity are key to adoption.

Flexibility is crucial: Service providers need customizable settings for availability, cancellations, and discounts.

Community builds traction: Events are social by nature so building a community around the product drives engagement.

Execution over idea: The best idea means nothing without a committed, collaborative, and agile team.

What's next for Feteflex

Official Launch: We’re targeting a full product launch by December, with aggressive community onboarding.

Advanced Features: Introduction of smart booking tools (AI-assisted recommendations), loyalty rewards, and live event tracking.

Expansion: Rollout across other Nigerian cities and eventually other African markets starting Q1 next year.

B2B Partnerships: Collaborations with venue owners, ticketing platforms, and corporate event planners.

Investor Readiness: Preparing for pre-seed funding to scale development, marketing, and operational growth.
