We were primarily inspired by the Pick Hacks theme of festival. Since we’re Canadians, we took inspiration from popular annual festivals such as the Canadian National Exhibition and Caribana when constructing our application. We wanted to make our game original and fun, but also represent our roots and where we come from.
What it does
Festival Faire is a fictional festival celebrated by Canadians all over the country. Gather round for a weekend full of games, entertainment and great performances. We built an immersive 3d game simulating a summertime festival with carnival minigames ranging from basketball, shooting, musical memorization, a falling duck game, and a logical lights game. While creating our game, we wanted to choose minigames that would improve cognitive ability. We believe that many people are uninformed and think that video games only do harm and no good. This is why before starting each mini game, the instruction page will explain the cognitive benefits of the upcoming game. This is a unique feature that can bring video games in a more positive light, and have a positive impact on the gaming industry.
How we built it
We built our project using Unity 3D and coded our scripts through C#. In total, we have 8 scenes and 27 C# scripts helping with our game functionalities.
Challenges we ran into
Completing all the different mini games in a weekend was definitely a task. Rather than doing just one game, we wanted to combine multiple games into a grand festival.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our game is very functional as we have a total of five mini games and many scripts helping with functionalities. The fact that we were able to finish this weekend was an accomplishment in itself.
What we learned
We learned how to code a variety of minigames and to be more efficient coders with C#.
