Inspiration
FesRoute helps people discover festivals through their personal taste in music. We wanted to make music discovery feel more visual, personal, and adventurous.
What it does
Users answer a short music diagnosis and receive artist and festival recommendations. They can explore collected artists, festivals, playlists, schedules, and walking routes.
How we built it
We built FesRoute with React, TypeScript, AWS Amplify, Lambda, DynamoDB, and Terraform. SerpApi, YouTube verification, Google Cloud AI, and recommendation algorithms power the collection and discovery flow.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenges were collecting trustworthy public data and handling incomplete or changing sources. We also had to design recommendations that balance similarity, diversity, and real-world festival logistics.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created an end-to-end experience from music diagnosis to festival route planning. The system validates playable tracks, preserves collection evidence, and supports separate dev and production environments.
What we learned
Good discovery requires more than matching genres; it needs context, diversity, and clear explanations. We also learned how important bounded collection, provenance, retries, and graceful failure are for live data products.
What's next for FesRoute
We plan to expand artist and festival coverage while improving collection quality and freshness. Next steps include production catalog promotion, Google login, saved taste profiles, and richer personalized festival routes.
