Inspiration
The inspiration for FemFinance comes from the untapped potential and significant barriers faced by mass market women in accessing investment services. Recent reports show women continue to be underserved by asset management and often lack confidence in long-term financial planning due to a lack of tailored solutions and engagement from advisors. We set out to create an inclusive platform that helps close this gap and empowers women to take control of their investment journey.
What it does
FemFinance is a digital companion that provides educational resources, smart guidance tailored to life events (like divorce, entrepreneurship, or wealth transfer), and access to sustainable investment options. It uses an evidence-based, gender-intelligent framework to proactively engage women, build financial confidence, and connect users with value-added services and advisors who understand their needs.
How we built it
We built FemFinance using a modern web stack, leveraging frameworks such as React for the front end and utilizing cloud-based APIs for real-time data and personalized guidance. Our process was informed by feminist finance research and human-centered design principles, ensuring the platform addresses safety, stability, and success in every feature.
Challenges we ran into
Some of our key challenges included:
- Addressing implicit bias in financial advice and product recommendations.
- Ensuring educational content resonates with women from diverse backgrounds.
- Safeguarding personal information while offering personalized services.
- Integrating real user stories and feedback into the app flow. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created an accessible, intuitive platform that embodies feminist finance principles.
- Built a modular system for life-event-driven guidance, which can adapt as users’ situations change.
- Launched successful partnerships for expert-led educational sessions and virtual meetups.
- Incorporated measures to continually track engagement and impact among new female users, addressing KPIs highlighted by industry leaders.
What we learned
- Women’s financial needs and behaviors are highly diverse and context-specific.
- Trust and practical advice are critical for engagement; visible representation matters at every touchpoint.
- Sustainable investment and entrepreneurship resources are especially valued by women seeking long-term wealth growth.
What's next for FemFinance
FemFinance aims to further personalize wealth-building journeys by:
- Expanding to more life event scenarios.
- Building more partnerships for sustainable investing and entrepreneurship.
- Launching a community-driven Women’s Wealth Academy for ongoing support and education.
- Deepening analytics to measure and demonstrate impact for users and stakeholders. This project directly addresses the hackathon theme by developing mass market women’s investment capabilities through connection, education, and empowerment.
