Inspiration
Gen Z is a generation that grew up with virtual best friends (pets) called Tamagotchi. As university kids living away from home, we sympathize with the struggle of managing school, career, social life, and most importantly... ourselves! We wanted to find a solution to help support our fellow peers and the younger generations inspired by our old pets from when we were kids. On top of that, we all came from different families and cultural backgrounds and thus a lot of us are shy to admit there are things we don't know about taking care of ourselves. Thus, we developed a virtual friend (her name is Paddie) who can provide us judgement-free support.
What it does
Main features:
- We send out reminders of self-care tips (eg. Have you drank water today? Have you flossed your teeth? etc.). If you do, Paddie will be happy. If not, she will be visibly upset. Your goal is to keep her happy.
- Integrated calendar that predicts your cycles based on your current data
- Integrated Google Fit API that keeps track and visualizes your steps history
- Todo list of hygiene habits to refer and check off on your own
How we built it
- We used React to develop this website. We used components from MaterialUI, and Google Fit API.
Challenges we ran into
- learning new languages and technologies within the time constraint
- Finding the line between what would be invasive and not
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We more or less got basic functionalities down by the end of the hackathon
- Proud of our creative idea and our ability to renovate games from our childhood
What we learned
- how to use React, MaterialUI, and Google Fit API
What's next for Femagotchi
- Turning it into a mobile app to make it more easy to use and accesible
- A nutrition feature
