This project was inspired by a common experience: leaving a social interaction feeling unexpectedly energized or exhausted without fully understanding why. Our bodies often react to relationships and environments before we consciously recognize those signals.
Felt explores how nervous system responses can help us better understand these patterns. Inspired by Polyvagal Theory, the app visualizes three states: Safe (ventral vagal), Stress (sympathetic), and Shut-down (dorsal vagal). By combining wearable biometric data such as heart rate and HRV with interaction records, the system helps users reflect on how different people and environments affect their nervous system.
We designed features such as the Social Field Map, which organizes relationships based on how the user’s body tends to respond around them, and an interaction history that records emotional states and biometric indicators during interactions.
One of the biggest challenges was translating complex physiological concepts into a simple and understandable interface. Our goal was not to replace human intuition, but to provide a tool that helps people reflect on their social experiences and better understand their own emotional patterns.
