FeetBeat is a device that syncs the user’s running pace to the beat of their music using Bluetooth technology. Just three inches wide, the device is inserted under the laces of one shoe. FeetBeat measures a runner’s step frequency and sends this data to a mobile app that generates a music playlist in real time. Using our product, a runner’s step will fall on the beat of the song being listened to. FeetBeat’s value proposition is performance enhancement through auditory motor synchronization for runners looking to improve their workout. Users experience energy gains, metronomic effects that regulate stride, oxygenation optimization, and better overall workout performance. The FeetBeat device consists of an accelerometer with blue-tooth connection. The physical proximity of the sensor to the foot maximizes the precision and accuracy of FeetBeat’s measurement of step frequency, even when the motion is minuscule.

Because the step counter is based on an accelerometer, as opposed to GPS-tracking (like Nike+ Run Club and Runkeeper), it can be used for indoor running. It is also differentiated by the unique feature that allows users to input their own music choices. For example, Weav Run can only be used with a predefined set of songs. Additionally, FeetBeat can measure more details about steps and variation in frequency than competing GPS technology in other smartphone apps, generating a more complete data set for runners, which will be especially useful for those in training.
