Inspiration

What inspired us to create this project was witnessing the story of Bryan, who was fired from Dunkin' Donuts for selflessly distributing surplus food to the needy. Recognizing the food waste problem in businesses like Dunkin' Donuts, where perfectly good items are discarded daily, we aim to build a platform enabling businesses to safely donate excess food to those in need, fostering a more compassionate and sustainable approach to food distribution.

What it does

Our platform serves as a centralized hub for businesses, including restaurants, grocery stores, food courts, and hotels, enabling them to register and provide essential details such as business name, category, pick-up times, location coordinates, and contact person information. Through our website, we offer businesses a streamlined way to contribute surplus food, and from our admin page, we efficiently monitor and coordinate these donations, ensuring a seamless connection between donors and those in need.

How we built it

We crafted our platform using Angular for the frontend and Django as the backend, leveraging the strengths of each to create a robust and user-friendly experience. Our frontend is deployed on Render, providing a seamless and efficient interface, while the backend resides on PythonAnywhere, ensuring reliable and scalable operations. To enhance business location management, we've added Google Maps into our system to demonistrate the coordinates, adding a layer of precision and accessibility to our platform.

Challenges we ran into

We faced a hurdle in obtaining a Google Maps API key due to the absence of a credit/debit card for project creation.
