Inspiration

I want to make sure my pets are healthy and happy. Knowing how much they are eating and drinking and that they have food and water available, even when I'm not home is great peace of mind.

What it does

Its a WFI connected scale that does some smart analysis to figure out how much the pet is eating and drinking and how much is currently in the food bowl.

How I plan to build it

Planning to use a strain gauge load cell like this one: link with an amplifier like this one: link along with a Particle Photon to collect, filter, and send data to cloud. Then either and iOS application or web interface to display and alert.

Challenges I expect

I'm pretty good with the embedded and hardware parts so expecting I can get the food bowl, load cell, amplifier, Particle part basically working. I'm just a beginner at iOS and web side so that's where I need help.

What's next for FeedMe

First steps are to get the hardware running and talking to Particle, next steps will be figuring out how to deal with the data and how to display.

I own the myquantifiedpet.com domain and see this project as one piece of a larger plan to becoming the "fitbit of pets". It can be hard to tell the health of a pet as they can't speak and especially if you aren't home so ways to gather health related information remotely and intelligently analyzing it is valuable to many pet owners.
