Inspiration
We were inspired by a simple observation: creators spend hours making YouTube thumbnails, but most of them are guessing. A thumbnail can make or break a video, yet there was no easy tool to compare a draft against the competitive landscape and judge whether it was actually likely to win attention. We wanted to build something that helps creators make smarter decisions before publishing
What it does
FeedClash is a chrome extension AI tool that helps creators optimize YouTube thumbnails before they go live. A user uploads a draft thumbnail, enters a topic or keyword, and the app compares it against live YouTube competitor videos in real time. It analyzes key factors such as contrast, readability, visual emphasis, and attention focus to estimate how strong the thumbnail is in a crowded feed. The result is a clearer, data-driven view of whether the thumbnail is likely to attract clicks.
How we built it
I built the project using a Next.js frontend for the dashboard and a backend that integrates live YouTube benchmark data and thumbnail analysis. The system fetches competitor videos, evaluates the uploaded image, and applies computer vision techniques to measure saliency and visual attention. I also designed the interface to show side-by-side comparisons and score-based feedback so the result is easy for creators to understand and act on.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was integrating live competitor data with reliable thumbnail analysis. I had to handle API limitations, inconsistent video metadata, and ensure the app still performed well when the data or image processing was incomplete. Another challenge was building a clean user experience that made technical analysis understandable for creators without a design or data-science background.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that i built a working end-to-end product that goes from thumbnail upload to competitor benchmarking and visual scoring.I were able to combine real-time data, computer vision, and a user-friendly interface into a single demo that clearly communicates value. I also created a solution that turns a creative problem into a measurable, data-driven workflow.
What we learned
I learned that a strong product idea is not just about the technology—it is also about making the value obvious to the user. I also learned how important it is to balance real technical depth with usability, especially when building tools for creators who want fast, actionable feedback rather than complicated metrics
What's next for FeedClash
The next step for FeedClash is to expand beyond thumbnails into full video content optimization. We want to add more scoring signals, improve the benchmarking pipeline, and create a more personalized recommendation engine for creators. In the future, we envision FeedClash becoming a complete creator optimization platform that helps with thumbnails, titles, hooks, and campaign decisions.
