Inspiration

The idea is to share my experience in all these years participating in various hackathons (some won) and the things we can improve as a community.

Feedback

In the notable aspects, I can say:

  • The diversity of hackathons available (Blockchain, AI, Web) that are for both new people and experts like me.
  • The email recommendations sent weekly are very useful because the ones that interest me the most are highlighted, sometimes I can't search the Web portal and this email makes my search work easier.
  • The resources available in each hackathon (when there are any) and the rules are very clear at all times to know whether to participate.

In the aspects to be improved, I think that:

  • More filters to search for hackathons, for example, in my case, it would be good to add a filter on the technology to be used, since, despite the fact that many hackathons are in the same category, technology can change.
  • Add more information about the monetary prizes, especially about the legal discounts (taxes by country), because I have won some hackathons and I have a significant discount on the final value received, and it would be useful to have that information (or a calculator for it).
  • They should add more tracking to the projects that finish/win a hackathon, to encourage them to continue and those projects don't get abandoned. It could be part of the awards, that the companies that organize help the winning projects in some way (such as participating in a business incubator or presenting Venture Capital, among others).

Idea for a new tool: Co-hacker matching

There could be a new tool, where we enter our data and experience (technical and non-technical), and what we are looking for from other people to be partners in projects and hackathons, and the platform tries to find the best possible matches ("a partner tinder "). This tool should have:

  • Profile: Where we enter our data (required and optional) with our experience, studies, and types of projects that we want to participate in and the time we want to dedicate to it.
  • Co-hacker: Where we enter the profile characteristics that we look for in other people.
  • See candidates: Where we see another hacker on a single page, we explore his profile and decide if we want to send him a message or switch to another profile (like tinder).
  • Messaging: To send and receive messages from other hackers who have seen our profile.

This type of tool is very effective for finding partners, for example, YCombinator has such a tool to find partners for ventures because finding partners through Discord or the forum is more difficult because we are not sure of the complementary abilities of other people and sometimes we need that certainty to face entertaining and challenging hackathons.
