Inspiration
We realized that the ordering of food at restaurants consumed a great deal of time, both for us and the restaurant staff. Furthermore, the splitting of the bill is troublesome, so we decided to tackle these problems.
What it does
It provides a cost - effective platform for diners to walk in and place their orders individually or as a group, using a telegram bot. The bot relays the order to the restaurant staff and each order is unique to the table and the person ordering. After the meal, the bot also allows the diners to pay for their food, individually or as a group, allowing cash or credit, as well as online payment.
How we built it
We used python 3.5 as the programming platform, integrating it with Nickkoala's Telepot (python framework for telegram API).
Challenges we ran into
There were a couple of challenges. A number of tiny bugs accumulated over time resulting in major logical errors. This may be due to fatigue. Through discussions and thinking logically and hard about it, we managed to overcome all the obstacles. A major challenge faced was to reduce the data consumption of this programme, so as to increase convenience for the users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of everything that we have accomplished. To get the bot to work itself is a major milestone for us. Making it so simple and easy to use also provides us a sense of satisfaction.
What we learned
Not all of us were experienced in python coding, so it exposed us to a new platform. We learnt that programming is actually doable as long as we think logically and creatively.
What's next for Feed Me Bot
We have a couple of ideas. 1) Multi - Language Support 2) Allowing the sharing of food 3) Integration with hardware (Signalling system to aid waiters)
