The Federal Travel Tools are designed to improve decisions made by individual travelers, their supervisor, and travel managers. These tools are Federal Travel Planner and Federal Air Travel Planner. Both tools are built on the open source Google Maps Engine Pro platform. The Google Maps Engine was chosen because it offers a Geographic Information System (GIS) like user interface which is powerful, scalable, and intuitive. Federal Travel Planner gives users access to information needed to allow cost savings related to ground transportation such as rental cars fees, gasoline, and hotel parking fees. Federal Air Travel Planner is a tool intend to allow travelers and travel managers to explore air travel patterns within the agency for the purpose of identifying unusual travel patterns that could be improved.
