INSPIRATION
-Wildfires take away homes, wildlife, as well as vegetation.
- Large amounts of smoke are released into the air. -Forest fires can cause long-term changes in species composition.
What it does
-The velocity of sound in air changes with temperature change, we are using this to detect forest fires. -To increase the accuracy and prevention of false alarms we have used sound detection and analysis, which gets better with time. -Relying on sound ensures that we can perform the task even in the dark.
TO DISTINGUISH FROM ANIMAL SOUND
-The sounds produced by animals are not continuous. -Particular frequencies (using a machine learning algorithm from the data collected), generally the frequency of fire lies between 200Hz to 400Hz -These facts are used to prevent a false alarm.
How we built it
-The feature phones come with a speaker and are used to produce high-frequency sounds and then a microphone of other devices fitted approximately 1-2Km away to detect the sound from this we can easily calculate the speed of sound.
-An Anemometer that is attached to each device is used to get the velocity of sound.
-When there is a sudden change in temperature of 5-6°C we can alert for forest fire as such sudden changes are not possible by natural causes.
-Using the formula given in Theory we can easily get the temperature of the air continuously.
-The location of this event can be known easily as we already know the exact position of each device.
-After this to get confirmation we can use the microphones of the phones to collect sounds that can be easily sent to a central data analysis system that uses Deep Learning to detect fire.
-After getting the Confirmed we can release a high-density fire extinguishing chemical that will stay on the forest floor to slow down the fire so that we can get some time to act properly.
-According to the proximity of the fire, an alert is sent to the forest officers who are closest to the fire.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Early detection of Forest Fire.
-Using sound so can be used during the night and more energy-efficient than using image -processing.
-Using fire extinguishing technics at disposal makes the spread of fire slow giving more time for proper action to be taken.
-The use of Pre-existing feature phones that have lost their value makes it environment friendly.
-Our solution takes into account that other noises like animal sounds are ignored.
-The use of solar energy makes the device self-sustained.
What's next for Feature Phones To The Rescue
-WE HAVE OBSERVED THAT GOVT. OF AUSTRALIA SPEND 1.4 BILLION DOLLARS DURING THE BUSHFIRE INCIDENT. THAT'S HUGE. WE AIM TO REDUCE THE COSTS BY A LARGE MARGIN.
-AS WE ARE USING TO BE OLD PHONES WHICH NEED NOT BE IN GOOD CONDITION (BROKEN SCREENS WILL ALSO DO THE WORK).
-ONE MORE ULTIMATE EFFECT THAT WE TACKLE WITHOUT EVEN TARGETTING IS TEMPERATURE RISE AND ALSO THE COST RELATED TO CONTROLLING TEMPERATURE RISE.
-ANOTHER CAUSE WE CAN PUT OUR TECH TO USE IS DETECTING ILLEGAL TREE LOGGING ACTIVITIES.
-AT FIRST, WE HAVE THOUGHT OF MAKING ANNOUNCEMENTS THAT WE ARE CONDUCTING PAID VOCATIONAL COURSES, TO ATTRACT ALL THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLES OF THE NEIGHBOURING VILLAGES. ONCE WE TEACH THEM HOW TO RUN AND MAINTAIN THE SYSTEM, WE WILL CREATE TEAMS AT THOSE PLACES TO CARRY OUT FURTHER OPERATIONS IN OTHER NEIGHBOURING VILLAGES, WHERE THERE IS THE THREAT OF WILDFIRE.
-ONE ASPECT OF OUR BUSINESS MODEL IS THAT WE CAN PITCH BIG CORPS. THAT THEY CAN ESCAPE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR LAWSUITS CAUSED BY THEM DURING THEIR INDUSTRIAL "ACTIVITIES".
