Inspiration

I have always wanted to have a mentor but it's always been a challenge for me. Not that am picky. When deciding on what I was going to build for this hackathon I decided to solve one of my problems and that is where the idea of Mentors emerged.

What it does

Mentors is an elegantly designed web app that aims to connect mentors and mentees. With Mentors web app you can: -----> Register new users. -----> Allow users to apply to become mentors. -----> Mentors can create well-scheduled programs/events for their mentees -----> Find a mentor. -----> Find a mentee.

How we built it

I built the app with my favorite front-end framework which is flutter. I wanted to fully integrate the app with firebase for the hackathon. Sadly I was not able to do that due to some challenges and time and I just integrated some firebase tools like authentication with a static dart back-end.

Challenges we ran into

Working solo, I struggled with time management as I wanted to do a lot but with a very tight schedule. Even with my flutter experience, I had a few bugs that really slowed me down and I ended up not integrating some firebase tools I had hoped to integrate into the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am really happy with how the design turned out. Am also proud I get to keep my promise to me and actually submit something for this amazing hackathon.

What we learned

For me, it has to be that a team goes a long way in a hackathon. I also learned new things in line with flutter. It was my first time hosting a web app with firebase and that was something new for me.

What's next for Mentor

I love the idea of Mentor and I would really like to see it serve its purpose. For this reason, the first order of business would be to layout the idea clearly and completely. After that, I would love to work on the backend to make the webapp to work as envisioned.
