Inspiration
Digital payments make life easier, but online scams, phishing links, and suspicious transactions can put users at risk. We created PaySentinel AI to help people recognize potential payment threats before they lose money and make digital payments safer and more trustworthy.
What it does
PaySentinel AI is an AI-powered payment security platform that analyzes transaction details, identifies suspicious payment requests and phishing indicators, and generates risk scores with understandable explanations. It provides security alerts and recommendations to help users make informed payment decisions. The platform is designed to demonstrate payment protection alongside PayPal Sandbox integration.
How we built it
We designed PaySentinel AI as a modern, user-friendly fintech security platform. The planned architecture combines a responsive web dashboard, a backend for transaction analysis, AI/ML-based risk detection, and a database for storing transaction records and alerts. PayPal Developer Sandbox provides a safe environment for demonstrating test-payment workflows. The system is designed to present risk scores, suspicious indicators, and actionable security recommendations.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was designing a risk-scoring approach that could identify suspicious patterns without incorrectly labeling legitimate payments as fraudulent. We also considered how to make AI-generated explanations understandable to non-technical users, protect sensitive financial information, and integrate payment workflows safely without handling real money during demonstrations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We developed the concept of PaySentinel AI as a practical solution to a real-world financial security problem. We brought together AI-powered risk analysis, scam detection, clear security explanations, and a payment-focused user experience under one platform. Our goal is to make advanced payment security easier to understand and accessible to everyday users.
What we learned
We learned how AI can support payment security by identifying suspicious patterns, communicating potential risks, and helping users make informed decisions. We also gained insights into responsible AI design, false-positive risks, secure payment integration, and the importance of combining a useful interface with reliable underlying functionality.
What's next for PaySentinel AI
Our next steps are to strengthen the fraud detection model using suitable datasets, improve risk-score accuracy, expand phishing and scam detection, and develop more personalized security alerts. We also plan to deepen the PayPal Sandbox integration, evaluate the system against realistic test scenarios, and explore authorized payment-data integrations to move toward a more reliable, scalable payment protection platform.
