About the Project: FrutaFácil
Inspiration
FrutaFácil was inspired by the urgent need to reduce food waste in Brazil and support small farmers who struggle to sell their surplus produce. We wanted to create a solution that connects local producers to urban consumers, making fresh food more accessible while promoting sustainability and social impact.
What We Learned
Throughout this project, we learned about the complexities of the food supply chain, the importance of user-friendly digital platforms for rural communities, and the legal aspects of food donation and sales. We also deepened our understanding of sustainable development and the power of technology to solve real-world problems.
How We Built It
We designed and developed FrutaFácil as a mobile-first web application using React Native for the frontend and Node.js with PostgreSQL for the backend. Our team focused on intuitive UX, secure authentication, and efficient geolocation features to match producers and consumers. We also integrated a notification system and created a simple onboarding process for users.
Challenges Faced
One of our biggest challenges was ensuring accessibility for users with limited digital experience, especially small farmers. We also faced technical hurdles with real-time geolocation and maintaining data security. Coordinating team tasks and balancing schoolwork with project development required strong communication and time management.
FrutaFácil represents our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility.
