Inspiration
Rishi, one of our team members, grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's Disease before she passed away. Rishi always wished he could help people suffering from Alzheimer's, like his grandmother. We all felt this would be a way that people's lives could be improved.
What it does
Faten Bot gives people with Alzheimer's someone to talk to, read jokes with, and full functionality including remembering facts, remembering loved ones, setting timers, booking appointments, latest news, and more! People with Alzheimer's have difficulty remembering things, and making friends, so this bot acts like a human assistant.
How I built it
We used applications called DialogFlow, as well as AWS and many Facebook Chat Bot libraries to build this. The API used came from plugins we made and integrated into programs to develop algorithms to fix problems people with Alzheimer's deal with. We used HTML, CSS, and Javascript for the website.
Challenges I ran into
Our teammate is very sick, so it was difficult for us to communicate efficiently at first, but we worked extremely hard to be able to get the project finished. The WIFI was extremely slow at the hackathon so we kept refreshing the WIFI. We didn't know how to make Facebook chatbot libraries and the hosting company was extremely slow, and we were not able to get a good fetching service at first so it took a lot of research. We looked up many YouTube videos and documentation to be able to make this.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We overcame our challenges, and created a successful an artificial AI chatbot in less than 12 hours, and created it for the greater good, and for a cause, we all care about. This isn't some program to play with when you're bored, this is going to change lives and help people in the future.
What I learned
We learned that brainstorming an idea is the most important thing when it comes to a hackathon. The making of the project is important, but we need to brainstorm ideas. We learned a lot about the difficulties of people with Alzheimer's through this process, and we learned to use Artificial Intelligence. We also learned that creating a flowchart and using a whiteboard for your coding ideas is super important!
What's next for Faten Bot
We are very interested in what we made, so we will be buying a domain and finding better languages to do the bot with as soon as tomorrow. We loved working on this and want to launch it as a real web app outside of Facebook chatbots as well, and plan to make it an SMS chatbot too. We plan to use DialougeFlow to be able to connect this to Google Apps and more such as Google Home, Echo, and Alexa.
