In the United States, 65% of domestic house cats are overweight, leading to a variety of health issues related to obesity. To address this growing concern, we developed the Cat Activity Tool (Fat CAT), a device designed to track a cat's physical activity in sessions and incentivize movement with treats. The project was built using a combination of sensors, motors, and a custom-designed framework to monitor and encourage feline exercise. However, we faced several challenges along the way, including limitations with the sensors’ range and the motors' lack of speed, which affected the overall functionality. Despite these setbacks, we are proud of the progress we've made, particularly in our hands-on learning experience with breadboarding and hardware development. Moving forward, Fat CAT will integrate more advanced tools and features to refine the product and create a fully functional solution to help cats lead healthier, more active lives.
