Inspiration
My girlfriend introduced me to the concept of fasting, and it sparked the idea to build an app that could make it easier to track fasting sessions in a clean, simple way.
What it does
Fasting Pal helps users track their fasting windows, view their fasting history, and stay motivated with a minimalist design focused on ease of use.
How I built it
The app is built using Swift and SwiftUI for a native iOS experience. Data is managed using SwiftData with iCloud backup for syncing across devices. The app is currently monetized through banner ads.
Challenges I ran into
- Designing a UI that was both minimalist and informative
- Getting the fasting timer to handle app restarts and background states correctly
- Setting up iCloud sync with SwiftData
- Integrating AdMob banners smoothly into SwiftUI layouts
Accomplishments that I’m proud of
- Successfully launching Fasting Pal on the App Store
- Building the app from scratch with no third-party dependencies
- Creating a smooth user experience with intuitive fasting tracking
- Monetizing the app with ads without compromising usability
What I learned
- How to work with SwiftData and iCloud syncing
- Dealing with app lifecycle events when using timers and notifications
- Ad integration in SwiftUI
- The app submission and release process on the App Store
