Our project is a Fast Food to Carbon Emission Calculator. In a day and age, where we constantly hear about climate change, we need to engage in sustainable practices to mitigate the negative effects of climate change. As a result, we decided to make a Fast Food to Carbon Emission Calculator to ensure that people are being mindful of the carbon emissions they are producing. It works by selecting your favorite fast food restaurant that you have eaten at recently, such as McDonald's. Then you can select the meal you bought there, and our program will tell you how much carbon emissions that meal produced.

Our project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, by promoting awareness and encouraging more sustainable food choices. Additionally, it supports SDG 13: Climate Action, by highlighting the impact of individual dietary choices on carbon emissions and climate change.

We first compiled a list of common meat and dairy items from large food chains, extracted the files, and calculated how much carbon emissions each meal would produce. We then produced an interface so users could select which restaurant and meal they ate. We struggled a lot when producing an interface so that users could interact with our calculator, but we eventually settled on using FLASK. All in all, we are very happy with how the interface and the code turned out. Through this project, we were able to become familiar with Tkinter and also learned about debugging in general. As for what's next, we hope to expand our project by making the interface look cleaner, having more items from different stores, and improving the project as a whole. Through our project, we hope individuals are more mindful of how they contribute to carbon emissions, leading to a healthier planet overall.
