FashMap was inspired by the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit on college campuses and the noticeable gap in visibility for student-run businesses. Witnessing students' challenges in promoting their ventures, from fashion lines to beauty services, sparked the idea to create a platform that not only showcases these businesses but also champions sustainability and innovation.

What It Does FashMap serves as a digital marketplace and community for college students, connecting them with local student-run businesses. It offers a unique platform where students can discover fashion, beauty services, and more, right on their campus. With features like interactive virtual try-ons and a comprehensive business directory, FashMap makes shopping and supporting local student businesses engaging, convenient, and eco-friendly.

How We Built It We developed FashMap using Figma for design and prototyping, focusing on a user-centered approach. By conducting interviews with both student consumers and entrepreneurs, we identified key features and pain points. Utilizing Figma’s collaborative tools, our team iterated on designs in real-time, integrating AR/VR technology for virtual try-ons and creating an intuitive UI that encourages exploration and interaction.

Challenges We Ran Into One major challenge was balancing a rich feature set with user-friendly design. Making advanced features like AR/VR accessible to all users required innovative thinking and continuous testing. Additionally, ensuring the platform served both consumers and business owners equally presented a unique set of design challenges, from business profile customization to seamless navigation.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of We're proud of creating a platform that not only meets a direct need within the college community but also promotes sustainability and supports local economies. Successfully integrating AR/VR technology as a core feature for virtual try-ons, enhancing the shopping experience, and receiving positive feedback from our initial user testing are key accomplishments. Building a product that has the potential to change how students engage with and support each other’s businesses is incredibly rewarding.

What We Learned Throughout the development of FashMap, we learned the importance of empathetic design and the value of direct feedback from our target audience. The complexities of integrating new technologies like AR/VR into a user-friendly interface were significant learning points. Moreover, the project highlighted the critical balance between innovation and accessibility, pushing us to design with inclusivity in mind.

What's Next for FashMap Looking ahead, FashMap aims to expand its features and reach. Plans include enhancing the AR/VR try-on experience with more customization options, incorporating AI to offer personalized recommendations, and broadening the scope of businesses to include more categories. We also aim to extend beyond individual campuses to create a nationwide network of college entrepreneurs and shoppers, further supporting the student economy and fostering a culture of sustainability and innovation in college communities. does
