Inspiration
We've all seen countless apps and websites that enable online shopping for clothes gain popularity in these past few years. However, we realised that there never really was a platform to aid users' online shopping experience. Today, there are various problems of online shopping, especially for clothing, and we decided to solve them all through a website called FashionBuddy! We were inspired by the people around us, especially because which Singaporean doesn't shop for clothes online? We decided to really think what the challenges of online shopping were and how we could fix it with an all-in-one website!
What it does
FashionBuddy! is essentially a modified version of many of the websites and apps you see for clothing. We tried to improve the way many clothing websites work today, after identifying a major drawback in them. We realised that many users had a huge problem, which is that they are never 100% sure whether the products they're going to receive will actually flatter them or will they be left at the corner of their wardrobes. Of course, we've heard of return policies, you might ask, but we want users to have a hassle-free experience. Therefore, FashionBuddy allows you to customise your feed, ensuring that you get recommendations of clothes of your taste. In addition to that, if you chance upon something that excites you (which we're sure you will), you can try them on using our VR filter that provides you an opportunity to see how well the clothes fit you and whether the colour flatters you or not! It is a full package that truly caters to the needs of online shoppers.
How we built it
We created a prototype using Canva which is a versatile platform that I'm sure all of us have heard of, and its vivid graphics made the entire process a lot easier for all of us! We used Google Slides to document down our ideas and the whole process of prototyping along the way.
Challenges we ran into
The deadline was round the corner, and we were all rushing for time to complete this prototype. With all of our hectic schedules, it was a true challenge to hop on call and work on the prototype together. Furthermore, we barely knew each other at first and it was certainly difficult to come together with our contrasting perspectives. At the end of the day, we're glad to have worked so well together!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud that we were able to persevere through in this short amount of time and create a prototype that could actually prove very useful to our target audience, avid online clothing shoppers!
What we learned
We learned to use Canva for website design, in a way that none of us thought was possible! We also gained more knowledge on how online shopping works in the first place. Most importantly, we learnt how to effectively co-operate with each other in the course of just a week!
What's next for FashionBuddy!
We're sure that FashionBuddy, upon further development of course, could launch an actual website in the near future! We find the design and concept of FashionBuddy very user-friendly, and it could definitely gain rise over time with the new norm of online shopping. There is no doubt that improvements can be made, but with enough appeal, FashionBuddy could be the next big thing!
