Inspiration

Fashion decisions are often made with uncertainty. People see many outfit ideas online but still cannot imagine how those clothes will actually look on them. This frequently leads to buying clothes that remain unused or stitching garments that do not meet expectations.

The inspiration for FashionAI – AI Fashion Designer for Everyone came from real experiences while choosing fabrics and outfits for special occasions. Without being able to visualize the final stitched design, people often make risky decisions.

FashionAI was created to solve this problem by allowing users to visualize fashion outcomes before buying or stitching clothes. Beyond convenience, the platform also addresses a broader issue: fashion waste. Many garments are purchased or stitched but worn only once or never used again. By enabling better decision-making and encouraging clothing reuse, FashionAI supports sustainable fashion consumption, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

  • AI Color Advisor – Suggest clothing colors based on the user's skin tone.
  • AI Wardrobe Stylist – Create outfit combinations using clothes users already own. -Clothing Reuse Suggestions - The platform suggests ways to reuse old clothes (for example converting a saree into a lehenga), promoting sustainable fashion.

How we built it

FashionAI was developed using AI-native development tools.

  • Claude API for AI-powered text and styling insights
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript for UI structure and interaction
  • Prompt engineering to guide AI outputs and improve accuracy

By combining user image uploads with AI-generated outputs, we created a platform that simulates a digital fashion designer.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was ensuring that the AI-generated outfits used the clothing items uploaded by the user.

Initially, the AI generated random outfits instead of combining the uploaded wardrobe images. We solved this by refining prompts and structuring the system so that uploaded images were treated as source wardrobe elements.

Another challenge was designing a UI that could organize multiple AI tools into a clear and simple experience.

We successfully built a platform that demonstrates how AI can help people make better fashion decisions.

FashionAI allows users to:
