Fashion toolkit

Inspiration

Fashion designers move between scattered references, photos, fittings, technical notes, and production documents. We wanted one creative toolkit that turns those visual inputs into useful fashion outputs without breaking the designer’s original intent.

What it does

Fashion Toolkit is a Codex plugin with six workflows for fashion design:

• Extract a character from a reference image.
• Turn garments into clean ecommerce imagery.
• Fit outfits onto custom characters.
• Place approved looks into editorial photo sessions.
• Create seven-day OOTD image series.
• Generate front and back manufacturer-style technical-flat plates from garment photos.

The technical-flat workflow outputs a consistent visual tech-pack format with line-art illustrations, design directions, and blank factory fields for later completion.

How we built it

We bundled six custom skills into one local Codex plugin called Fashion Toolkit. Each skill has a focused input/output contract, while shared image-generation workflows preserve garment shape, panel placement, details, and styling references.

For tech packs, we used garment references to generate technical line art, then applied a fixed visual layout: technical flat on the left; visible design directions, manual fields, and factory notes on the right.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was separating what can be reliably seen in photos from what should not be guessed. A photograph can show silhouette, pockets, buttons, panels, and visible seams, but it cannot confirm fabric composition, GSM, grading, or factory construction methods.

We also refined the output format until the generated illustrations and instructions were consistent enough to be useful in a real workflow.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a unified fashion workflow instead of a collection of disconnected image prompts. Fashion Toolkit can move from a garment reference to ecommerce visuals, styling imagery, editorial use, and a clean technical-flat handoff.

We are especially proud of the locked tech-pack plate format: it keeps every product output consistent, readable, editable, and factory-oriented.

What we learned

Fashion AI works best when it supports design judgment rather than pretending to replace it. Clear constraints, reference-driven generation, and intentional blank fields make outputs far more useful than overconfident automated documents.

We also learned that repeatable visual systems matter: a fixed layout turns image generation into a dependable design tool.

What's next for Fashion Toolkit

Next, we want to add more skills for colorway exploration, measurement-sheet completion from physical samples, print-placement mockups, and collection-level lookbook generation.

We also plan to add a smoother install and sharing path so more fashion designers can use Fashion Toolkit directly in their own Codex workflows.
