Inspiration
The amount garment workers are paid is unfair as they contribute a lot of work into ‘successful’ fast fashion brands. We wanted to spread awareness on the effects fast fashion trends have on the environment and workers.
What it does
This website teaches people about which brands participate in fast fashion trends and which brands are safe to buy from. It also filters certain fashion brands so that people avoid purchasing their items, while also giving recommendations on brands that are eco-friendly.
How we built it
We used a series of languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We mostly used HTML for the actual bones of our website, so like the text and images. CSS was used to stylize and personalize our site, so basically used to make Fashion Sanctum look pretty.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of problems when creating our navigation bar and especially the dropdown for one of the tabs. Another challenge we ran into was trying to create an actual search bar that allowed users to search the web for fashion sites. We ended up finding out Google’s programmable search engine.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our biggest accomplishment is the google search engine, as we had trouble figuring out how to filter and block fast fashion brands. The overall look and feel of our site is something we are very proud of as well ( a LOT of CSS was put into this project).
What we learned
We learned how to contribute and work as a team in order to come up with a website that is functional. Although this might sound very bleak it is very true! Especially when you only have four days to create a working website. By working together we were able to learn more about coding because of our different skill levels.
What's next for Fashion Sanctum
We want to continue to spread awareness of the troubles of garment workers, by blocking out more sites and adding information about brands to support and those to avoid.
