Inspiration
I wanted to spotlight the 25 countries where Horizon Worlds is officially available and bundle them into an experience that feels like a global fashion expo. I’m obsessed with streetwear and cultural storytelling, so “Fashion Atlas” became my way to fuse fashion, geography, and friendly competition, especially for mobile players discovering Horizon for the first time.
What it does
Fashion Atlas drops players into a mobile-optimized expo hall with clear wayfinding. They can browse country booths/mini-museum, learn facts, listen to national anthem, try on outfits in a dressing-room mirror, purchase items, get in the photo-booth, walk a camera-assisted runway, vote for the next featured country, and compete in three trivia games (flags, maps, photo trivia).
How I built it
Everything was scripted in TypeScript with Horizon Worlds’ APIs. I built 25 country booths/mini-museum, each with custom props, GenAI-generated landmarks (like an Eiffel Tower for France or a kangaroo for Australia...), a themed skybox, and responsive UI panels. The dressing room, voting system, and quiz area all run on custom UI components. Every booth also features a slideshow screen with royalty-free photos from that country. Each booth also plays the national anthem of the country! I used the 'instant replays' feature on the runway to make it memorable! and of course Leaderboards and Achievements to have some competitions! I also give the options for players to vote for the next country to be featured, to have a reason to come back!
Challenges I ran into
Balancing asset detail with mobile performance while keeping each booth unique. Preventing dozens of concurrent slideshows from spiking memory. Designing UI that reads well on both wide Quest displays and narrow phone screens. Wiring instant-replay camera captures when players are moving or in VR.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
A fully mobile-ready world with stable performance even when every booth animates at once. A cohesive art direction featuring GenAI props that still feel hand-crafted. A runway system that auto-records walks and delivers replays via notifications. Quiz loops with per-player streaks, stats, and achievements.
And, of course, this amazing dressing room where people can mix and match 100 items, giving them over 15,000 possible combination!!!!!
What I learned
I deepened my understanding of Horizon’s avatar items, memory profiling, and Camera API. I also learned how to integrate GenAI tools responsibly, using them for skyboxes, props, and scripting.
What's next for Fashion Atlas - Wear Your Country
OMG, that's the best part! This world can be updated monthly or even weekly if it starts getting attention! with new quiz, country booth, avatar items, themed party, etc.. I'm thinking of highlighting different countries with different themes, for example, Finland for Christmas (Santa Claus's official hometown), etc. The World Cup is right around the corner as well, giving Fashion Atlas so many opportunities to celebrate countries!
