Fashion AI — Personal Styling Reimagined with Intelligence

Inspiration

The idea for Fashion AI was inspired by a common struggle — people often feel overwhelmed or left out when trying to find makeup or fashion items that match their unique features. Many platforms don’t consider skin tone, texture, or personal style preferences, especially for underrepresented users. We wanted to build something that makes everyone feel seen, confident, and stylish — all powered by smart technology.

What it does

Fashion AI is a web-based platform that allows users to: Get personalized foundation and skincare recommendations based on their skin tone and texture
Virtually try on makeup products using augmented reality
Chat with an AI assistant to get fashion and beauty advice
Watch influencer reviews, beauty hacks, and product tips
Check ingredient safety and find affordable dupes for high-end products
Experience a multilingual, inclusive interface for all users

🏗️ How we built it

We used a combination of modern web technologies and AI tools: Frontend: React, Tailwind CSS, Framer Motion for animations
Backend: Firebase for authentication, database, and storage
AI/ML:

  • GPT-based assistant for fashion tips
    • Skin tone analysis model for foundation matching
    • Dupe Finder using product embeddings and similarity scores
  • Augmented Reality: Face landmark detection for Virtual Try-On
  • Other Tools: Google Translate API, custom video player, PWA for offline access

Challenges we ran into

  • Calibrating the Virtual Try-On feature to work with different lighting and face angles
  • Ensuring the foundation matcher was inclusive across diverse skin tones
  • Integrating multiple AI models into a single, smooth user experience
  • Making the UI accessible, fast, and responsive across all devices

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully functional AI-driven beauty advisor without any hardware dependencies
  • Created a foundation matcher that works with real user photos and lighting variations
  • Designed a clean, engaging, and inclusive UI that feels personal to every user
  • Integrated beauty education and affordability into the platform via influencer videos and dupe suggestions
