💡 Inspiration
The global food supply chain is a "black box." While consumers increasingly demand sustainable products, they have no reliable way to verify claims like water usage or carbon footprint at the point of sale. We built FarmTrace to bridge this gap, creating a direct digital link between the farmer's sustainable practices and the consumer's plate.
🚀 What it does
FarmTrace is a two-sided transparency platform:
For Farmers: A streamlined portal to log crop batches with deep sustainability metadata (Farming method, water metrics, pesticide usage). Upon submission, the platform generates a unique, 8-character Trace ID.
For Consumers: A search engine where users input a Trace ID to see the product's full journey, including a Proprietary Sustainability Score that simplifies complex climate data into a single, understandable metric.
For the Planet: A public Impact Dashboard that aggregates data across all users to show the real-time environmental footprint of the community.
🛠️ How we built it
We utilized MeDo, a no-code AI platform, to move from concept to a functional full-stack prototype in record time.
Logic Engine: We hand-architected a sustainability scoring algorithm (weighted across farming methods and carbon data) directly into the app's workflow.
Architecture: The frontend uses state-driven navigation to separate the Farmer and Consumer personas, while localStorage manages session-based listings for the MVP.
Data Strategy: We implemented a unique ID generation system (ECO-XXXX) to ensure every batch of produce has a permanent, searchable record in our centralized database.
💪 Accomplishments that we're proud of
The Scoring Algorithm: Designing a math-based system that translates technical data (like kg CO₂e) into a consumer-friendly score out of 100.
User Flow: Creating a friction-less experience where a farmer can register a product in under 60 seconds.
Impact Awareness: Building a dashboard that proves how individual small-scale farming decisions contribute to global sustainability goals.
🧠 What we learned
Building with MeDo taught us that logic and UX are more important than syntax. By using AI-driven development, we were able to focus 100% of our energy on the sustainability problem and the data structure rather than debugging boilerplate code.
