FarmPulse – Institutional Crop Risk Intelligence Platform
Inspiration
FarmPulse was inspired by the uncertainty farmers face every season. A single pest attack, irrigation mistake, or unexpected weather event can destroy an entire crop cycle and a farmer’s yearly income. While researching agriculture, I found that about 86% of farmers in India are small and marginal farmers who cannot afford expensive technology or farm sensors, and crop loss often leads to financial distress.
I realized the real problem was not lack of data, but lack of early warning. Most farmers find out about crop stress only after visible damage appears, when it is already too late to recover the crop.
The Problem
Current agritech solutions have three major problems:
- IoT sensors are expensive and cannot be installed on millions of small farms
- Many platforms require smartphones and apps, which excludes many farmers
- Most systems are reactive, detecting damage after it already happens
- There is no scalable way to monitor millions of farms continuously
Because of this, millions of small farmers still farm without any early warning system.
Our Solution
FarmPulse is a crop risk intelligence platform that detects crop stress 10–14 days before visible damage using satellite data and weather data, with zero hardware on farms.
Instead of installing sensors on every farm, FarmPulse monitors farms remotely using satellite imagery and weather signals, detects crop stress patterns, and generates risk alerts and recommendations.
The system is designed so farmers can receive alerts through SMS or WhatsApp, so no smartphone or app is required.
How It Works (Simple Flow)
- Satellite Data – Vegetation index and crop health signals
- Weather Data – Temperature, rainfall, humidity patterns
- Risk Engine – Detects anomalies and crop stress patterns
- Risk Score Generated – Farm or region risk level calculated
- Alerts & Dashboard – Alerts sent and risk dashboard generated for institutions

What We Learned
We learned that many large problems are not solved by adding more hardware, but by using existing data in smarter ways. Satellite and weather data already exist, but they are not converted into simple, actionable insights for farmers. FarmPulse focuses on turning existing data into early warnings and risk intelligence that can scale to millions of farms.
