Inspiration

It is also the major employer of labour force, employing 36.5% of the population according to Nigerian FAO(Food and Agricultural Organization) Now, according to statistics, there are approximately 12million farmers in Nigeria today. That’s roughly 7% of Nigeria’s population according to World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources About 80% of these farmers are being ripped off by middlemen. This escalates the price of products being sold to the consumers Due to these ripoffs, according to 72% of these farmers live In abject poverty below USD1.9
What it does
FarmChainNg is a blockchain solution built on the Ethereum blockchain that connects Farmers directly to Buyers. It also utilzies IOT technology to track farm produce from when it leaves the farm and when it gets to the buyer
How I built it
I built the UI(user interface) using React and Bootstrap. I wrote my smart contract using the Sophia smart contract language ethereum provides and deployed it on the Ethereum kovan testnet
Challenges I ran into
Blockchain is a new tech field,so i a had alot of issues trying to create the smart contract and also getting the IOT devices to implementing the traching functionality
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- I was able to utilze the full power of the ethereum blockchain in creating smart contracts that handles creating farmers account and also performing peer to peer transaction between the farmer and buyers
- I was able to save the images uploaded by the farmers on a distributed system
- I built a fully decentralized application ## What I learned
- Benefts of Blockchain in which includes peer to peer transactions, decentralization and distributed systems
What's next for FarmChainNg
- Incorporate the company
- Launch the product
- Partner with the State Government to get information of farmers who’s lands are registered with the government.
- Partnership with Farmer Cooperative societies, Local Governments and Farmers Groups/Association.
- In 5 months our platform should have minimum of 200 registered farmers on our platform gotten from the State Government.
- Raise $50,000 in funding from investors
- Partnership with IOT companies to distribute IOT devices or hardwares to farmers to enable them scale
