Inspiration

My love for animals started long before I ever thought about building a technology project.

At the age of 11, I started my first small poultry project in my father's compound with just 12 chickens. At the time, it was simply something I enjoyed. I loved taking care of the birds, watching them grow, feeding them, and learning how small decisions could affect their health and survival.

That small flock taught me something that stayed with me: farming is not just about producing animals or crops; it is about managing resources, reducing waste, making good decisions, and ultimately making a living from the work.

As I grew older, I became increasingly interested in technology, AI and problem-solving. I also kept my love for animals and agriculture.

Eventually, I started asking myself a different question:

What if technology could help farmers make more money without making farming more complicated?

I realized that many farmers do not necessarily need another complicated system. They need someone—or something—that can help them find the right buyer, understand demand, compare prices, coordinate supply and reduce the stress involved in getting their products to market.

That became the inspiration for FarmLink Nigeria.


What We Made

FarmLink Nigeria is an AI-powered agricultural sourcing and distribution network that connects farmers with reliable commercial buyers.

Instead of requiring farmers to invest more money, produce more, or navigate complicated technology, FarmLink focuses on one of their biggest challenges:

getting the right product to the right buyer at the right time and at a profitable price.

We are starting with poultry, particularly broilers, and plan to expand into eggs, fish, goats and other agricultural commodities as the network grows.

The platform is designed around three participants:

Farmers → FarmLink AI & Operations → Buyers

Farmers can provide information about:

  • Available livestock
  • Quantity
  • Weight
  • Location
  • Price
  • Availability date

Buyers can provide:

  • What they need
  • Quantity
  • Preferred weight
  • Location
  • Required delivery date
  • Recurring demand

FarmLink then uses structured data and AI-assisted workflows to identify suitable matches.

The goal is simple:

less stress for farmers, more reliable supply for buyers, and better opportunities for both sides.


Why This Matters to Me

FarmLink is personal to me because I have experienced the beginning of farming myself.

Those first 12 chickens taught me that even a very small farm requires attention, consistency and good decisions.

But I also learned something else: loving farming is not enough to make farming profitable.

A farmer can raise healthy birds and still struggle if:

  • the buyer is unreliable,
  • the market price changes,
  • transportation becomes too expensive,
  • the farmer cannot find enough buyers,
  • or the farmer has no reliable information about demand.

I don't want technology to replace the farmer.

I want technology to make the farmer's work easier and more profitable.

That philosophy is at the heart of FarmLink.


How We Built It

We designed FarmLink as an asset-light, AI-assisted marketplace rather than starting with a traditional farming operation.

The first version does not require us to own farms, livestock or delivery trucks.

Instead, we are building the infrastructure that coordinates the people who already have these resources.

The FarmLink Operating System

The system is built around several connected components:

  1. Supplier Database Stores verified farmer information, available products, quantities, prices, locations and reliability.

  2. Buyer Database Stores buyer requirements, preferred quantities, product specifications, locations and recurring demand.

  3. AI Supplier Intake Converts farmer messages into structured information that can be searched and compared.

  4. AI Buyer Intake Converts buyer requests into standardized requirements.

  5. Matching Engine Helps identify suppliers based on factors such as price, quantity, location, weight and reliability.

  6. Price Intelligence Compares available supply, buyer demand and logistics costs to help determine whether a transaction makes economic sense.

  7. Transaction Management Tracks orders, commissions, delivery status and transaction history.

  8. Analytics Dashboard Measures transaction volume, revenue, repeat buyers, supplier reliability, unmatched demand and other important business metrics.

The initial version can operate using lightweight tools such as WhatsApp Business, structured databases, spreadsheets and AI-assisted workflows. As the business proves demand, these components can evolve into a dedicated digital platform.


The AI Advantage

AI is not the product by itself.

The agricultural network is the product.

AI allows us to operate that network more efficiently.

For example, if a restaurant sends:

“I need 100 broilers every Friday, around 2–2.5kg.”

FarmLink can convert that request into structured demand.

At the same time, a farmer might report:

“I have 300 birds ready next Thursday, average weight 2.4kg.”

The system can identify the potential match.

Over time, FarmLink can learn from transaction history:

  • Which farmers are reliable?
  • Which buyers reorder?
  • Which locations have the strongest demand?
  • Which suppliers offer competitive prices?
  • What products are currently difficult to source?
  • What margins are available after transportation?

This turns fragmented agricultural information into useful market intelligence.


What I Learned

Starting with 12 chickens at age 11 taught me lessons that are still relevant to FarmLink today.

1. Start small

You don't need hundreds of animals to learn how farming works.

Likewise, FarmLink doesn't need thousands of users before it can prove its concept.

We can start with a small number of farmers and buyers and expand based on real demand.

2. Profitability is about more than production

Producing something does not automatically mean you can sell it profitably.

The connection between production and market access is just as important.

3. Technology should reduce complexity

Farmers already have enough challenges.

The solution should not force them to become technology experts.

FarmLink is therefore designed around simple interactions while the complexity happens behind the scenes.

4. Data creates better decisions

If we know what farmers have available and what buyers actually need, we can make better decisions than simply guessing.

5. Relationships matter

Agriculture is fundamentally a relationship-driven industry.

Trust between farmer, buyer, transporter and broker can determine whether a transaction succeeds.

Technology can support those relationships, but it cannot replace trust.


Challenges We Faced

One of the biggest challenges was deciding where technology should actually be used.

It is easy to build an impressive AI system that does not solve a real problem.

We therefore chose to start from the farmer and buyer rather than from the technology.

Another challenge is price volatility.

Agricultural prices can change quickly due to feed costs, supply, demand, transportation and seasonal factors. Because of this, FarmLink cannot simply rely on static prices. The system needs continuously updated market information.

Another challenge is trust.

A farmer may report one quantity and deliver another. A buyer may change requirements. A transporter may cause delays.

This is why FarmLink includes supplier verification, transaction records and reliability scoring as part of the operating model.

Finally, we had to solve the challenge of scaling without taking unnecessary financial risk.

Rather than buying livestock ourselves, we designed FarmLink as an asset-light marketplace. This allows us to test the business model and generate transaction data before committing large amounts of capital to inventory or infrastructure.


What I'm Proud Of

What makes me proud about FarmLink is not simply that it uses AI.

It is that the idea comes full circle.

I started with 12 chickens in my father's compound at 11 years old because I loved animals.

Years later, that same passion has become the foundation for a technology project aimed at helping farmers like the people I once watched and learned from.

FarmLink combines three things I genuinely care about:

animals, technology and creating opportunities for people.

The vision is not to build another complicated agricultural application.

The vision is to build a system that quietly works in the background and helps farmers spend less time worrying about finding buyers, negotiating fragmented markets and coordinating supply.


What's Next

The first 90 days are focused on proving the model.

We plan to:

  • Build a verified supplier network.
  • Build a commercial buyer network.
  • Begin with poultry.
  • Complete and document real transactions.
  • Measure actual margins and transaction costs.
  • Identify repeat buyers.
  • Automate supplier and buyer intake.
  • Develop AI-assisted matching.
  • Build price and demand intelligence.
  • Expand into additional agricultural commodities once demand is proven.

The long-term vision is much larger than poultry.

I want FarmLink to become a digital agricultural marketplace and intelligence network where farmers can access demand, buyers can access reliable supply, and both sides can make better decisions using real market data.

From the 12 chickens I raised at 11...

...to a technology platform designed to help thousands of farmers do more with less.

That is FarmLink Nigeria.
