FarmerHut
Inspiration
It is not hidden from the world that in India farmers are really facing some issues when they want to sell their crops to the consumers. They have to go through a number of middlemen just to sell their crops to the government or some big companies that too at really really cheap prices. And there are many instances when the crops get damaged due to the illiteracy among farmers of what facilities government provides them especially the small farmers, and here in India majority of farmers are poor. We wanted to do something to help farmers. So we came up with a solution to help our farmers.
What it does?
We are introducing a platform - FarmerHut where farmers can list their vegetables, fruits, etc. We will educate the farmers that how they can use our platform and regarding the general practices and what else they can do to get a better yield. Initially we'll have to tell them about our platform then definitely it'll spread through word to word among communities. On FarmerHut the consumers will be able to contact the farmers directly and buy whatever they want. So you may ask why would people go directly to farmers? Well because the fruits and vegetables can't be any more fresh and of course due to no middlemen or companies their will be huge differences in the costs.
How we built it
We built it keeping minimalism in mind. So firstly we designed and prototyped everything on Figma. We used Angular js to build the Figma designs of the sign-in, sign-up, and home pages.
Challenges we ran into
So there were some issues when we weren't able to replicate the designs into the front-end. But we are working on it from scratch and will get it up and running keeping the designs in mind.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
So one of our team members is a debutant in hackathon. This is his first-ever hackathon. The figma design was really good. We're proud of building it using angularjs, html, css, figma, spring, hybernates and sql in such a short amount of time considering the different time zones of our team members.
What we learned
We learned that we should never over-plan. We should plan according considering the time we have. And always have a backup plan!
What's next for FarmerHut
So we plan to achieve everything that we initially planned for FarmerHut. We are planning to improve the design with time and implement what we wanted initially.
