Inspiration
The need to reduce losses experienced by farmers as a result of difficulty in accessing markets and storage inspires this project.
What it does
The solution connects farmers to value providers (transportation, warehousing, inspection, advisory). This makes it possible for the farmers to notify the market when they have produce for sale or storage. The market can respond to the farmers by making purchase offers or placing bids.
How I built it
This is still at a prototype stage.
Challenges I ran into
We realized that we needed to cater to the numerous farmers that were uneducated and would have difficulty in using a robust web-based application. We implemented an IVR system to cater to this niche of farmers in six languages (English, French, Igbo, Hause, Pidgin, Yoruba)
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud of the solution we came up with that provides various options: Voice, SMS, and Website in six languages. This will ensure that participants in both rural and urban areas will be able to use the solution.
What I learned
We learned about various needs that farmers have. Things we did not know about farmers' needs came to the surface when we started working on this project.
What's next for Farmer's Market
It will be built into a complete product and developed into a startup.
